John Reney Jr.

John Reney Jr. was born and raised in Brownsville, graduating from Homer Hanna High School in 1976. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and was honorably discharged in June 1980. Reney then joined the Texas Department of Public Safety, completing the Highway Patrol Academy, and was stationed as a highway patrolman in Refugio, Corpus Christi, Bryan and Austin before retiring in 2011 as a major in the Highway Patrol Division. After retirement, he joined the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in March 2012 and has worked in the Office of Inspector General. Reney was promoted to his current position in October 2016.
Reney has a bachelor’s degree from Corpus Christi State University and graduated from the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute in 1992. He is also a 1998 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
